This is the 5th WooCamp invite I’ve had the pleasure of working on. It started as a paper invite that we mailed out and was themed like the National Parks (rsvp form = permit for example). It was super fun and had a really great impact when received, but there were a few lost in the mail, which was sad. So, the next year we opted for a website, and it was timed beautifully with the release of the new True Grit movie, which I thought would be a fun to play with. But, there was something special about the mailed pieces, and my client had the idea to make it a pop-up, so I totally ran with that idea the following year. Then I think we missed a year in between due to impossible work loads, but then we came back with another web version taking advantage of the convenience of just having everything online (sorry printed media), and I played with a parallax design and used some photography I’d taken during the last event and did some hand lettering with an homage to the styling of Victorian explorers.

I’m back at it this year with another Hype HTML5 animated/interactive site. It’s a pretty robust platform, so I thought I could easily make a little diorama box and make it look like stop-action animation. I wanted the product to look really rough and elementary (a la science diorama) so you’ll see a lot of hand cut papers and hand written notes. I built the diorama box and took photos of all the pieces to piece it together. It was fun to play with and not be super precious with it, and I think the stop-action timing of all the animations works well with the look.
